Yes, hubster is in Perth on business for a few days and the dogs and I can't sleep for the heat. We Melburnians aren't used to this Queensland-style heat! Don't know how you glamour pusses stay so serene in the humidity? xx
Hi Janelle..just want to say that I just got your "Paris" book and I also have your Black & White book --- LOVE LOVE LOVE both. Spent the afternoon "in" Paris tripping through the nooks and crannies -- wonderful for the armchair traveler. Your Design in Black & White is probably my very favorite design book -- my library has more than 100 design books....anyway, just want to let you know how much I admire your talent as a writer and photographer and how much enjoy your blog!
Oh, that's so kind of you Maureen. Thank you for writing. How amazing that you have 100 design books! You're probably beating Karl Lagerfeld's library! Glad you liked the black and white book. I'd like to do another one but am also considering retiring from writing, so it's a difficult decision... Thanks again for the lovely note. x
The branches are from our 22 pine trees that border our back yard. We're getting them taken down as they're a nuisance and the neighbours hate them. I clipped a few branches as a way of paying tribute. It's always hard chopping down trees. Unfortunately, these trees are just not made for suburban blocks. But they're great for free Christmas decorations! x
The 'wheelbarrow of hydrangeas' was an early Christmas gift from Santa. I loved the hot pink hydrangeas I saw this year in Gramercy Park in New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum's courtyard garden in London. The colour was astonishing. I told 'Santa' (who lives in our house - very handy, really) I wanted pink hydrangeas for Christmas, so he bought 3 huge pot plants. Now I just have to keep them alive in the 38-degree heat! Watering is key. But I've noticed they don't like too much water (the leaves go black), and they love a little sun too. xx
luff it all. You're up late x
